Just to clarify for others like myself who are putting this on a publishing site, the Sharepoint:DelegateControl, which you state above ...

"you will notice there is a Delegate control in the head element right below the “PlaceHolderAdditionalPageHead.”

... this is only the case for a Teamsite but not on a Publishing Masterpage. A very small change to add the delegate statement into the publishing masterpage but thought i would mention it to save time for others.

Laslty, I realise this comes under 'looking a gift-horse in the mouth' but would it be possible to post the full code for your dll ( or email me ). I am a hopeless coder but would like to attempt to extend it to add a Google Canonical reference from another column in the Pages library and so the full code including references etc would save me trying to muddle thru.
